A technical project manager (TPM) manages projects that require technical expertise. They are responsible for the planning, execution, and delivery of projects, from start to finish.
Responsibilities
TPMs act as the lead subject matter expert in their company when it comes to technology. They bridge the gap between technical and business requirements
Responsibilities
- Planning: Create project plans that include timelines, resource allocation, and risk assessment
- Scheduling: Assign tasks to team members and set deadlines
- Budgeting: Monitor the project budget and make adjustments as needed
- Communication: Keep stakeholders informed about the project's progress and any issues
- Collaboration: Work with other team leaders and department heads to ensure project objectives are met
- Research: Research new technologies and maintain them
- Training: Hire and train technical staff
- Documentation: Create and maintain project documentation
- Performance measurement: Measure project performance using appropriate tools and technologies
- Technical knowledge: A strong understanding of software development processes, architectures, and technologies
- Communication: Effective communication skills to communicate project goals and recognize the strengths of team members
- Leadership: Leadership skills to manage technical teams
