Overview
Hummingbird Scientific is adding a Software Engineer – Real-Time Systems & Instrumentation for developing and maintaining software solutions, create integrations with third-party systems and manage internal databases. We seek a detail-oriented, analytical problem solver with a curious and innovative mindset, strong organizational skills, and a proactive approach to documentation and knowledge sharing.
The main responsibility of this role is to develop and maintain software solutions to enhance system interoperability and data management. This includes writing and debugging software (Python, C#, JavaScript), collaborating with the applications and engineering teams, providing technical support, as well as building and managing databases. The role requires independent problem-solving, teamwork, and attention to detail, with a focus on accountability, clear communication, and adaptability.
Key Qualifications:
- Strong understanding of real-time instrumentation software design, with experience developing solutions for scientific instruments.
- Proficiency in JavaScript for UI/UX design, creating responsive and user-friendly interfaces for real-time systems.
- Experience with Python for instrumentation control and communication protocols.
- Demonstrated experience in building, maintaining, and optimizing SQL/noSQL databases.
- Experience with system architecture and real-time applications.
- Proven ability to develop multi-language integration handlers for seamless communication between components written in different programming languages (e.g., Python, C#, JavaScript).
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to troubleshoot and optimize real-time software applications.
Optional Qualifications:
- Familiarity with LabVIEW for instrument control and automation.
- Experience with TEMs, SEMs, and other scientific instruments.
- Knowledge of manufacturing systems or ERP systems is a plus, but not required.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. A background in Physics is a plus.
- 3+ years of software development experience in a professional or academic setting, preferably with a focus on instrumentation or real-time systems.
