Role Overview

As a Software Engineer I (Frontend) at Chegg, you will play a crucial role in building nextgeneration educational systems. While your primary focus is on frontend development, you'll also work closely with our full-stack teams and engage with backend technologies and cloud services. In this role, expertise in Node.js and GraphQL is essential for creating efficient, robust, and scalable applications.

What You'll Do

• Develop and optimize dynamic user interfaces using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and TypeScript.
• Build responsive, high-performance applications with advanced frameworks
  
  

such as React.js, Next.js, and Redux.

• Implement effective state management solutions (e.g., Redux, MobX, or React Context) to maintain consistency and scalability across applications.
• Utilize UI frameworks (such as Material-UI, Bootstrap, or similar) to deliver
  
  

polished, user-friendly interfaces.

• Leverage modern frontend tooling and build processes (e.g., Webpack, Gulp,
  
  

Babel) to streamline development and ensure code quality.

• Use Node.js for server-side development, ensuring efficient data flow and robust integrations.
• Implement and manage GraphQL APIs to streamline data fetching and enhance client-server interactions.
• Collaborate with product managers, UX/UI designers, data scientists, and
  
  

backend developers to deliver cohesive, end-to-end solutions.

Full-Stack Exposure

• Gain hands-on experience with backend technologies including Java, Spring
  
  

Boot, microservices, Redis, MySQL, and AWS services.

• Support cloud deployments and help maintain scalable, secure applications.
• Write and maintain robust unit and integration tests to ensure the reliability of your code.
• Embrace CI/CD pipelines and modern debugging practices to streamline
  
  

development and deployment processes.

• Utilize AI-assisted development tools to enhance code quality and development efficiency.
  
  

Qualifications & Skills

Educational Background:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  
  

Experience

• 1+ years of hands-on experience with frontend technologies including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, TypeScript, React.js, Next.js, and Redux.
• Proven expertise in Node.js for server-side development.
• Mandatory experience with GraphQL—both in designing and consuming GraphQL APIs.
  
  

Technical Proficiencies

• Solid understanding of software design principles, data structures, and algorithms.
• Experience with state management libraries (e.g., Redux, MobX, or React Context) to build scalable applications.
• Proficiency with UI frameworks (e.g., Material-UI, Bootstrap) to deliver engaging and responsive user interfaces.
• Familiarity with build tools (e.g., Webpack, Gulp, Babel) and CSS preprocessors (e.g., SASS, LESS) or CSS-in-JS libraries.
• Familiarity with unit and integration testing frameworks along with CI/CD pipelines.
• Basic exposure to backend technologies (Java, Spring Boot, microservices) and cloud platforms, particularly AWS.
• Knowledge of AI-assisted development tools is a bonus.
