Senior Software Engineer II - Kafka Connect

About the Role:

We are a team of passionate engineers who love solving complex distributed systems and infrastructure problems. This role within the Connect team offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a critical component of Confluent’s product. Connect org is responsible for connectors while bridging the gap between Kafka and other data systems. In this role, you will design, develop, and maintain these connectors, ensuring they are robust, scalable, and performant. You will work with a team of experienced engineers to tackle complex technical challenges and contribute to the evolution of Connect. This role requires a strong understanding of distributed systems, experience with Java development, and a passion for building high-quality software. Experience with Apache Kafka is a plus. This role may involve mentoring junior engineers and collaborating with other teams within Confluent. A successful candidate will have a proven track record of delivering impactful projects and a desire to make a significant contribution to the open-source community.

What You Will Bring:

• BS, MS, or PhD in computer science or a related field, or equivalent work experience
• 7+ years of relevant cloud infrastructure/cloud networking experience
• Strong fundamentals in distributed systems design and development
• Experience building and operating large-scale systems in the Cloud
• Solid understanding of basic systems operations (disk, network, operating systems, etc)
• A self starter with the ability to work effectively in teams
• Proficiency in Java, Scala, C/C++, Go or other statically typed languages

What Gives You an Edge:

• In-depth familiarity with the JVM
• A strong background in distributed storage systems or databases
• Experience in the areas of resource management and QoS
• Experience/knowledge with public clouds (AWS, Azure or GCP)
• Interest in evangelism (giving talks at tech conferences, writing blog posts evangelizing Kafka)
• Experience working on databases or data storage
