A Day in the Life

This position has the responsibility and authority to apply extensive technical expertise towards software solutions of complex technical problems in imaging domain and provides solutions that require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity. Work is performed without appreciable direction and with considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of the assignment.

The Senior Software Engineer is responsible for providing leadership in the development of cutting edge products used in the medical field. Specific tasks include:

• Designing, developing, testing and documenting software components and applications.
• Leading requirements gathering, estimating, and planning efforts.
• Promote continuous improvement through the use of tools and practices such as Agile, Scrum, Test-Driven Development, Six Sigma and Kaizen etc..
• Interfacing with mechanical, electrical, systems, and test engineers.
• Troubleshooting, debugging, maintaining, and supporting existing software products.
• Supporting labs and surgical evaluations of products.
• Participating in and leading on-going professional development activities.
• Following Medtronic Navigation product development standards and practices.
• Identifying and implementing process improvements.
• Willingness and ability to assume increased responsibility.
• Effectively leading development teams.
• Occasional domestic and international travel may be required.
• All activities must be performed in compliance with the Quality System.
• Performs duties in compliance with environmental, health and safety related site rules, policies or governmental regulations.
  
  
  

EDUCATION REQUIRED:

• Bachelors in Computer Science or similar Engineering discipline.
  
  
  

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:

• 10+ years of software development experience with BE/B.Tech.
• 8+ years of software development experience with Masters.
  
  
  

SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

• Expert programming in C++/C#
• Strong knowledge of .NET technologies
• Strong knowledge of software design, development, debug and test practices.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Strong leadership skills and mentoring capabilities.
• Ability to work in a team environment.
  
  
  

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Knowledge of any scripting languages like Python, Perl, Java, etc..
• Strong windows OS fundamentals
• Expert knowledge of software design including OOA/OOD and design pattern.
• Software development experience in the medical industry or other regulated industry.
• Expert developing GUI applications.
• Experience building medium to large size C#/C++ applications/libraries.
• Expert knowledge of modern, iterative software design processes and development practices including agile and test-driven development.
• Project management skills, including planning, estimation and requirements management.
• Expertise in one or more of the followings: XML, XML schemas, OpenGL, Direct3D.
