Mission/Purpose of the Job
The Senior Business Analyst acts as a key bridge between the Business and IS by translating Business needs into detailed requirements and technology-enabled use cases, supporting high-complexity Products. They develop a deep understanding of the opportunities, risks, and issues facing the Business, and advise on how technology solutions can be used to achieve / resolve them.
Main Responsibilities
- Supports the Product Owner to realise the Product strategy by eliciting and managing detailed Business requirements (e.g., features, user stories) and designing technology-enabled Business use cases.
- Supports high-complexity Products that require a deep understanding of the immediate functional area, as well as broader Business processes (e.g., Finance).
- Documents as-is and to-be system processes, identifying areas for overall system process improvement.
- Collaborates with Product Owner, Solution Architect, and Business stakeholders to conduct paper-based design activities, capturing high-level system flows and possible technology solutions.
- Supports technical delivery activities by advising Functional Consultants, Developers, etc. on expected system behavior, informed by clear Business requirements.
- Acts as a subject matter expert in the relevant functional domain, with a clear understanding of Business needs and challenges.
- Performs functional testing on delivered solutions, ensuring it fulfils detailed business requirements.
- Develops Product user guides and training materials, delivering training to end users / support teams to enable Product adoption and maintenance.
- Supports the Product Owner to identify areas where additional security and compliance considerations should be factored in (e.g., sensitive data handling). Works with internal SMAs and Product team to ensure these considerations have been addressed correctly.
- Provides coaching to other experienced Business Analysts in the Product team.
Skills / Knowledge / Experience
- Over 6 years of proven experience in a Business Analyst or comparable role (including eliciting and managing detailed business requirements, designing business use cases, performing functional testing, and conducting user training).
- Good business knowledge in a relevant functional domain (e.g., Finance, customer facing), and how the opportunities, risks, and issues in these domains can be addressed by technology.
- Experience in analysing business challenges using structured frameworks and methodologies (e.g. Six Sigma)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for developing technology-enabled use cases and analysing Business needs.
- Experience in modelling system processes; knowledge of common notational standards is beneficial (e.g., BPMN).
- Able to design and execute functional tests, with experience managing bugs / defects through to remediation.
- Basic knowledge of software engineering, information risk, security standards, and technology solutioning is beneficial.
- Hands-on experience in Agile methodologies and practices (e.g., SAFe, Scrum, Kanban, JIRA) is beneficial.
- Knowledge of SAP ECC and/or S4 HANA are beneficial.
- Good communication skills with an ability to build rapport with a wide range of different Business and IS stakeholders.
- Able to operate highly autonomously, with outputs typically requiring no or limited review by a peer or direct supervisor.
- Hands on experience of managing small projects in a technology domain, qualification is beneficial (e.g. APMP)
- Ability to work effectively as part of a cross-functional IS team
