Since 2012, over 1.5 million people have been killed in road crashes in India and close to 5 million have been left seriously injured or permanently disabled. Besides the insurmountable emotional trauma that thousands of families must suffer each year, road crashes deal a crushing economic blow to many families.

SaveLIFE is a fast-growing, specialised organisation with a proven track record of delivering large-scale impact. We are best known for getting India its Good Samaritan Law and developing the "Zero-Fatality Corridor" solution to transform dangerous highways into "safe ways". We are registered as a not-for-profit organisation to ensure complete mission alignment.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Research Analyst to join our Public Policy team. This role will involve leading research projects, analyzing road safety data, and providing evidence-based policy recommendations aimed at improving road safety and reducing traffic-related fatalities across the country.

Role Overview

As a Data Engineer at SaveLIFE Foundation, you will play a key role in designing, building, and maintaining data-driven solutions that support our mission of saving lives through technology and evidence-based interventions.

Your Responsibilities Include

• Significant coding work using Python and PHP to automate and optimize data workflows and applications.
• Developing and maintaining PHP-based applications that integrate seamlessly with data pipelines and backend systems.
• Wrangling, cleaning, and transforming data from various sources such as SQL databases, APIs, and scraped content, ensuring automation wherever possible.
• Collaborating with stakeholders to understand requirements, identify pain points, and design streamlined data solutions to enhance decision-making.
  
  

Providing actionable insights by working with analytical tools and supporting data visualization efforts.

• Building and maintaining data pipelines to support real-time and batch data processing.
  
  

Integrating third-party APIs for data extraction and updates.

• Collaborating with cross-functional teams to test, deploy, and optimize solutions in a production environment.
  
  

Technical Skills

• Proficiency in Python, SQL, and PHP is required.
• Experience developing robust backend systems using PHP frameworks (e.g., Laravel, Symfony, or CodeIgniter).
• Experience building and maintaining data pipelines in production settings.
• Proficiency using Python libraries such as requests, scrapy, pandas, and sqlalchemy for ETL operations.
• Experience working with third-party APIs and integrating them into backend applications.
• Strong understanding of relational databases and data modeling techniques.
• Familiarity with tools such as Airflow, Kafka, and PySpark for data engineering workflows.
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms like AWS for hosting and scaling solutions.
• Experience with DevOps tools like Docker and Terraform.
• Strong debugging and optimization skills in PHP-based systems and database interactions.
• Sound understanding of statistics and probability.
  
  

Educational Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related technical field.
• 2+ years of experience in data engineering, software development, or related roles.
  
  

Preferred Skills

• Experience with R and R Shiny is a plus.
• Familiarity with PHP database interactions (PDO, MySQLi) and security best practices.
