Research & Innovation Data Scientist

With a focus on innovation to achieve growth, we are seeking a R&I Data Scientist to join our team and contribute to the design and implementation of cutting-edge AI solutions to support the R&I labs and teams of the group. The R&I Data Scientist will contribute to the growth and development of this startup while keeping a very sharp focus on the delivery of prioritized items. In the current business, macroeconomic, and climate crisis context, time of execution will be of the essence.

• You will work closely with various stakeholders, focusing on R&I but also including business teams, product development teams and corporate stakeholders to ensure that our AI solutions are robust, scalable, and aligned with our business objectives.
• You will play a pivotal role in shaping the future technology landscape to develop our product portfolio by contributing to the development of the AI / Gen AI Corporate Platform.
• Your expertise will drive the adoption of best practices in AI development and deployment, fostering innovation and excellence.

Key-outputs:

• Develop and implement advanced data analytics, machine learning, and statistical models to solve complex research problems and generate actionable insights.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, focusing on R&I but also including Industrial, Marketing & Sales or Corporate teams to understand business needs and identify opportunities for data-driven solutions.
• Lead the design, development, and deployment of scalable data pipelines for data collection, cleaning, and processing.
• Participate in the design, development, deployment and monitorization of AI solutions.
• Conduct exploratory data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and anomalies in large datasets.
• Present findings and recommendations to senior management and stakeholders through clear visualizations and reports.
• Stay abreast of industry trends and advancements in AI, Chemoinformatics and Material Informatics to ensure Syensqo remains at the forefront of innovation.

You will bring:

• PhD (preferred) or MS in Computer Sciences, Material Sciences, Material Informatics, Cheminformatics, Artificial Intelligence or equivalent
• Strong expertise of either Material Informatics or Cheminformatics
• Proven experience in designing and implementing AI solutions, with a deep understanding of Statistics, Machine/Deep Learning and generative AI technologies.
• Familiarity with AI development platforms, frameworks and libraries like TensorFlow, PyTorch, Keras, Scikit-Learn, LangChain, Hugging Face, …
• Hands-on experience of the AI & ML lifecycle - feature engineering, training, validation, scaling, deployment, scoring, monitoring, and feedback loop.
• Strong programming skills in Python
• (Preferred) Knowledge of computational chemistry, data-driven/theoretical modeling of polymers, formulations, reactions, and related topics.
• (Preferred) Knowledge and practical experience with large language models (LLMs), vector databases, techniques such as Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), AI agentic design patterns and LLM evaluation
• Creativity, curiosity and a passion for innovation and technology.
• Provide “Think 10X” on the roadmap to understand where Syensqo can leapfrog existing mindset/processes to unlock value and de-risk our strategy.
• Act with a hunters mindset.
• Ability to continuously monitor advancements in AI, chemical and material science and integrate state-of-the-art features into products.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to inspire teams and stakeholders.
• Strong at building relationships, setting collective accountability and resolving conflicts at a quick pace.
