About The Role

As a Principal Engineer on the SAP HCM team, you will define the technical direction for SAP US Payroll systems at scale. You’ll architect complex payroll solutions, guide cross-functional teams, and ensure compliance, scalability, and performance across mission-critical HR and finance platforms. This is a high-impact, hands-on leadership role ideal for someone who combines deep technical expertise with strategic vision and a collaborative mindset.

What You Will Do

  • Define and drive the technical strategy for SAP HCM Payroll (US), ensuring long-term scalability, compliance, and reliability.
  • Lead design and architecture of complex payroll configurations, including schemas, rules, PCRs, and integrations.
  • Own integration strategy with BSI Tax Factory and manage TUFS update lifecycle for tax compliance.
  • Partner with Core HR, benefits, Compensation, Finance, Global Time and Attendance, and Integration teams to align payroll systems with business needs and compliance goals.
  • Lead high-stakes troubleshooting and resolution for payroll discrepancies, taxation issues, and system failures.
  • Establish governance for payroll configuration, testing, deployment, and documentation.
  • Mentor senior engineers and influence engineering best practices across teams.
  • Contribute to the roadmap for payroll modernization, including potential transitions to S/4HANA or cloud-based solutions.

What You Will Bring

  • 10+ years of experience in SAP HCM, with deep expertise in US Payroll.
  • Proven experience architecting and supporting large-scale SAP Payroll systems.
  • Expert-level knowledge of BSI Tax Factory, TUFS, schemas, PCRs, and wage types.
  • Experience leading system upgrades, HRSPs, and end-to-end payroll testing.
  • Strong background in US payroll compliance and multi-state taxation.
  • Experience with SAP Time Management, FI/CO integrations, and third-party interfaces.
  • Prior experience in high-volume payroll environments (100K+ employees).
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with a track record of mentoring and influencing technical teams.
  • Experience with SAP S/4HANA, Employee Central Payroll, or cloud-based payroll transformations.
