The Network Infrastructure Engineering team build and maintain the Akamai network. We work closely with field technicians, ISPs, partners and internal operations, engineering staff to support continued growth. We manage the deployment of networks infrastructure, diagnosing hardware problems, facilitating server repairs, managing Akamai's hardware assets.

As a Network Infrastructure Engineer, you will design and deploy server clusters. Remotely diagnose hardware problems and facilitate server repairs and manage Akamai's hardware assets. You will be managing a team of field technicians and working closely with external partners. You will also ensure the service we deliver is exceptional with our Internal cross-functional teams as well.

As a Network Infrastructure Engineer II, you will be responsible for:

• Working closely with field technicians, ISPs and Akamai partners for installation and maintenance of Akamai Network Infrastructure.
• Managing server deployments, network installations, work closely with network architects, network engineers, contract managers, and operations staff.
• Coordinating with internal operations, engineering staff during pre and post-install stages of deployment projects.
• Designing, deploying, configuring and maintaining networks and remotely diagnose hardware problems, repair network, switch and router issues.
• Recruiting, train and manage field technicians.
• Identifying, assess, track, and mitigate issues and risks and anticipate bottlenecks and manage escalations.

Do what you love

To be successful in this role you will:

• Have 4 to 5 years of hands-on experience with network gear/switch hardware.
• Have layer 2 troubleshooting skills and good layer 3 concepts and basic knowledge of Unix/Linux command-line interface.
• Be experienced in large-scale data center hardware deployments and building scaling infrastructure.
• Have knowledge of Networking concepts such as IP addressing, DHCP, VLAN, Internet Protocols like TCP/IP and DNS.
• Be comfortable with Linux, hardware systems support in an Internet operations environment, anticipate risk and plan contingencies.
• Be familiar with routers and managed switches and have exposure to project management tools and techniques
