Network Engineer

Overview

Job Title: Network EngineerJob Summary:

The Network Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the organization's network infrastructure. This includes local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), internet systems, intranet networks, and other systems that support communication within an organization. The Network Engineer ensures that all systems are running efficiently and securely.

Key Responsibilities:

• Network Design & Implementation:
• Plan, design, and implement network systems for the organization, including routers, switches, firewalls, and other network hardware.
• Develop network topology and configurations based on the company’s needs.
• Network Management & Maintenance:
• Monitor network performance to ensure it is operating efficiently.
• Perform regular network upgrades and patch management.
• Conduct troubleshooting and provide timely resolutions to network issues.
• Security & Compliance:
• Implement network security protocols to safeguard sensitive data and prevent unauthorized access.
• Configure and manage firewalls, VPNs, and intrusion detection/prevention systems.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory standards (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA) where applicable.
• Technical Support:
• Provide on-call support for network-related issues and resolve problems in a timely manner.
• Work with IT teams and vendors to resolve technical issues or service interruptions.
• Documentation & Reporting:
• Create and maintain network documentation, including network diagrams, configurations, and troubleshooting procedures.
• Report on network performance and suggest improvements.
• Collaboration:
• Collaborate with other IT professionals to integrate network systems with other organizational tools.
• Participate in IT strategy planning to align network design with the company’s long-term goals.

Skills and Qualifications:

• Technical Skills:
• Strong knowledge of networking protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP, SNMP).
• Experience with routing and switching technologies (Cisco, Juniper, etc.).
• Proficiency in network monitoring tools and network security technologies.
• Experience with cloud networking (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
• Certifications:
• CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) or equivalent network certifications preferred.
• CompTIA Network+ or other relevant networking certifications are a plus.
• Soft Skills:
• Strong problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent communication skills to work with various stakeholders.
• Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks.

Education & Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• 3+ years of experience working as a Network Engineer or in a similar network infrastructure role.
