IT & Network Engineer – Substation Automation

Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled IT & Network Engineer to design, implement, and maintain secure and reliable network infrastructures for Substation Automation Systems (SAS). The ideal candidate will work on communication networks, cybersecurity, and SCADA integration for power substations, ensuring seamless data exchange and system reliability.
Key Responsibilities
· Design, configure, and maintain LAN/WAN networks, firewalls, and VPNs for substation automation and SCADA systems.
· Implement and support IEC 61850, DNP3, Modbus, and other communication protocols for substation devices.
· Ensure cybersecurity compliance with NERC CIP, IEC 62443, and utility security standards.
· Troubleshoot and optimize RTU, FRTU, MPLS, IED, and relay communications over Ethernet and serial connections.
· Support the integration of SCADA, EMS/DMS, and HMI systems with substation networks.
· Configure and maintain managed switches, routers, firewalls, and network monitoring tools.
· Conduct network performance analysis, intrusion detection, and cybersecurity assessments.
· Ensure secure remote access and authentication mechanisms for substation automation systems.
· Maintain network documentation, configurations, and operational procedures for compliance and auditing.
· Work closely with protection engineers, SCADA specialists, and IT teams to ensure system reliability.
Required Qualifications
· 3+ years of experience in network engineering, IT infrastructure, or cybersecurity for substation automation or power systems.
· Strong knowledge of IEC 61850, DNP3, Modbus, SNMP, and networking protocols (TCP/IP, VLAN, MPLS, VPNs, etc.).
· Experience with Cisco, Juniper, Hirschmann, Ruggedcom, or other industrial network equipment.
· Familiarity with firewalls, IDS/IPS, and endpoint security for OT networks.
· Hands-on experience with SCADA system integration and OT/IT convergence.
· Strong troubleshooting skills for network latency, packet loss, and real-time communication issues.
Preferred Qualifications
· Cisco (CCNA/CCNP), CompTIA Network+, or other networking/security certifications.
· Familiarity with NERC CIP, ISO 27001, and cybersecurity frameworks for critical infrastructure.
· Understanding of substation automation and digital substation technologies.
