AVP-Data Scientist

Moody’s Ratings’ AI Analytics group is at the forefront of leveraging advanced analytics and machine learning to drive high-profile data science initiatives. We seek an experienced Associate Vice-President - Data Scientist to lead our efforts in developing predictive models and algorithms to inform our decision-making processes. The successful candidate will work closely with other data scientists, data engineers, and software engineers to design and implement machine learning solutions that are scalable, efficient, and impactful.
The AVP Data Scientist will manage a team of data scientists and actively contribute to their professional development. The candidate is expected to embody Moody’s values of openness, diversity, inclusivity, respect, and a willingness to learn.
Responsibilities

• Develop and implement machine learning models and algorithms to solve complex problems and generate actionable insights.
• Manage and coach a team of junior data scientists, fostering an environment of growth and continuous learning.
• Collaborate with data engineers to design and optimize data pipelines for machine learning model development.
• Conduct advanced statistical analysis to understand large datasets' trends, variations, and patterns.
• Work with stakeholders from all parts of the organization to translate business needs into technical specifications and data-driven solutions.
• Lead initiatives to advance the team’s AI and machine learning capabilities, staying ahead of emerging trends and technologies.
• Ensure the integrity and reliability of analytical models by implementing robust validation frameworks.
• Mandatory Qualifications
• Master’s degree or Ph.D. in statistics, mathematics, computer science, or a related field.
• 8+ years of hands-on experience in data science, with a strong focus on machine learning, natural language processing, and predictive modeling.
• Strong expertise in Python and SQL, and proficiency in using machine learning libraries (e.g., scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch).
• Ability to write high-quality, production-ready code and to implement best-in-class CI/CD practices.
• Solid understanding of data manipulation and analysis techniques.
• Good knowledge of MLOps.
• Experience with cloud computing platforms, preferably AWS, and familiarity with data storage and processing technologies.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to communicate complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• Demonstrated leadership or management experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with LLMs.
• Familiarity with big data technologies, such as Spark.
